With plans to also reinvigorate the adjoining Central Park, the project as a whole will create a park nucleus for the renaissance of Scunthorpe, an icon of national quality, and a focal point for recreation, sport and leisure.

Through the provision of modern sporting and leisure facilities such as a 25m swimming pool, state of the art gym, and dance studio, The Pods will become a centre of excellence for sports, recreation and a hub for the development and delivery of sports education and leadership training. The unique design for the facility will see the creation of pods covered in natural materials. It is thought to be the first time in the country that this type of construction has been used for a major leisure facility.
